They are there when others need help: Cristiano Alano, Anke Boysen, Markus Entter and Thomas Fahnauer are the winners of the 12th BMW Group Award for Social Commitment. The award ceremony took place on 14 September in Munich. The award honours employees worldwide who are involved in voluntary work. They each receive prize money of 10,000 euros for their projects.
The BMW Group Award makes social commitment within the company visible, inspires others to join in and thus promotes social initiative within the workforce. „This award ceremony fills me with particular pride year after year. It is simply fantastic that we have employees who take responsibility and stand up for other people. It is admirable what they achieve in their free time. With the award, we are honouring this commitment and want to set an example: If everyone gives a little of their time for others, we can achieve so much together,“ said Ilka Horstmeier, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Human Resources and Real Estate, Labour Director, and patron of the award.
You help people in need
The BMW Group Award enjoys a high status within the company and connects volunteers with each other. Once again this year, over 100 employees applied for one of the four awards. The jury nominated eleven projects for the final, all of which took part in the award ceremony. All those involved have one thing in common: they want to improve the living conditions of people who are socially disadvantaged or in need. To this end, they donate their time and expertise. All finalists receive 2,500 euros each for their initiatives.
Anke Boysen works for the BMW Group in Munich. She trains rescue dogs for relief operations. She is passionate about training dogs. As a dog handler at I.S.A.R. Germany Stiftung gGmbH, she herself is involved in rescue dog team missions around the world - most recently during the earthquake in Turkey. The specially trained rescue dogs can track down buried people and help to save lives.

Taking responsibility is part of the BMW Group's self-image. The company has been promoting the social commitment of its employees for many years. With the BMW Group Award for Social Commitment, the company honours the personal commitment of its employees in a special way. Together with the SOCIAL DAYS and the SOCIAL DRIVE IT platform, it is one of the three pillars of SOCIAL DRIVE, which bundles the voluntary activities of employees. The SOCIAL DAYS, which take place on various occasions, are intended to promote interest in social commitment among employees and encourage them to become active themselves. The SOCIAL DRIVE IT platform offers various activities and gives committed people the opportunity to find supporters for their projects. This is how social engagement gets moving.
