Cholera outbreak in Haiti
In November 2010, I.S.A.R. experts travelled to Haiti again. Cholera had broken out there in the meantime. The aim of the aid mission was therefore to provide support, particularly in the medical field. The mission team took around 220 kilograms of medication and medical equipment to combat cholera with them to Haiti. These met the requirements of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and included infusion solutions and oral rehydration salts to produce a drinking liquid to replace the lost body salts. Antibiotics and disinfectants were also provided.
Cooperation with partner organisation
The medical equipment was handed over to the partner organisation "Haiti Med" in the disaster area and forwarded to a health centre. As cholera can be prevented or contained with the simplest hygienic means, the I.S.A.R. team of experts also carried out educational work. Pupils and teachers at several schools were given practical training on how to prevent the spread of cholera and other diseases.
