German aid for Yazidis affected by IS terror in northern Iraq
In 2014 and 2016, the aid organisation I.S.A.R. Germany launched aid campaigns for the Yazidis in northern Iraq who were persecuted by the terrorist organisation "Islamic State". "We are deeply saddened by the fate of the Yazidis," says I.S.A.R. President Dr Daniela Lesmeister. Many Yazidis have fled to the Sinjar Mountains to escape the terror. In their homeland, they are threatened with murder and enslavement. Fleeing was therefore the only way out for the Yazidis.
The Yazidis mostly had to leave their belongings behind. Now they lack the most basic necessities. I.S.A.R. Germany and the Yezidi community in Kleve therefore organised aid campaigns for the people in need. Relief supplies were transported to the region as part of the joint project. In addition, the Yazidis in the Sinjar Mountains are being supported in making their shelters winter-proof. They will also be equipped with heating facilities. The relief supplies are procured in the region and passed on to those in need.
