This training module was designed for the purpose of coordination in the event of a major disaster in order to train a multi-organisational structure. If a major disaster such as an earthquake occurs anywhere in the world, a wide range of organisations will become involved in humanitarian aid in the affected country. On the one hand, these are organisations that search for buried victims and rescue them. On the other hand, there are organisations that, for example, organise refugee camps, provide medical aid and those that take care of reconstruction.
Accordingly, the most diverse interest groups come together. A high degree of professional coordination on site is required. The UN/OSOCC is responsible for this coordination.
The course participants also received training in setting up a Reception and Departure Centre, or RDC. This is where all arriving teams are registered at the airport of the affected country and their transport to the various disaster areas is organised from there.
