I.S.A.R. Germany decides on a case-by-case basis together with the provider of the donation in kind whether transport to the respective project area makes sense. Please contact us in this regard.
Private donations in kind
Many citizens would like to help people in need in times of crisis with donations in kind. I.S.A.R. Germany would like to express its gratitude for these offers of help. However, we ask for your understanding that in most cases we are unable to accept them. The reasons for this are as follows:
Donations in kind are usually used goods that have to be collected, stored and then transported to the people in need. The costs for this often exceed the value of new purchases. Transporting the relief supplies collected through individual donations presents us with major logistical problems that are eliminated if the required relief supplies are purchased close to the disaster area.
If the material goods are to be donated to crisis areas abroad, further problems arise:
- The donated goods are often not adapted to the cultural customs prevailing in the crisis area, and there is often a lack of equipment for preparing food.
- The provision of different goods does not allow for fair distribution to local people. This also applies to pre-packed food parcels, as these should be tailored to the size of the families in need.
- The transport of relief supplies collected through individual donations presents us with major problems when it comes to border formalities. As it is not possible to check the contents of every single parcel put together by donors, it is not possible to draw up the correct loading documents required for crossing the border. This means that the import regulations of the countries in which the needy are to be helped cannot be complied with.
- The purchase of consumer goods at the place of use also has the advantage that it (re)strengthens the local economy and the victims of the disaster generate their own income.
Nevertheless, you can help us with your donations in kind. For example, you could auction them on eBay in favour of I.S.A.R. Germany and use the proceeds to support us and people in need.
