Free donations or earmarked donations - „Needs-based instead of earmarked“
We want to inform, educate and advertise for free donations without earmarking. Trustworthy recipients can often distribute the money better and more appropriately without fixed specifications. We specialise in providing rapid emergency aid immediately after disasters, such as the severe earthquake in Haiti (2010) or the hurricane in the Philippines (2013).
Earmarked donations may only be spent on the specified project. This makes sense as long as the need exists in an acute disaster. However, if these donations are needed in a future disaster, we may not use them for this purpose.
By their very nature, disasters cannot be predicted or planned for. Operations take place in an extremely short time frame. We need to have collected enough donations in advance of the disaster in order to finance it. This means that when the next disaster occurs and the next mission starts, the money must already be available to ensure the immediate transport of the team and equipment.
Free donations that are not earmarked for a specific purpose cannot expire; they will be needed when the next disaster strikes and will be used by us as required. Naturally, it is impossible to predict where and to what extent this disaster will occur.
The willingness to donate can vary greatly depending on the disaster situation. This can depend on the media coverage of the disaster, for example. However, this does not mean that the people on the ground need less support. We rely on unrestricted donations so that we can provide effective help even in cases where people are less willing to donate.

It goes without saying that we use every donation we receive for statutory disaster and civil defence purposes.
