Central Italy and the south-east Asian state of Myanmar were shaken by severe earthquakes today.
Many buildings were destroyed or damaged. There were numerous deaths and injuries, particularly in Italy. As things stand at present, neither country requires international assistance. There have been no requests for assistance to date. A deployment of I.S.A.R. Germany is therefore not necessary at present. We are continuing to monitor developments. Should the situation change, we will be able to provide assistance within a very short time following an official request.
