After the severe hurricane Matthews, I.S.A.R. Germany and the Humanitarian Aid Department of the BRH - Federal Association of Rescue Dogs sent a team to Haiti.
The organisations are responding to an international request for assistance from the government of Haiti. The six experts from the fields of operations management and medical aid departed from Düsseldorf Airport this morning. Their task will be to support partners in the disaster region and to assess the situation following the hurricane. The aim is to work with them to coordinate possible aid projects on the ground. I.S.A.R. Germany was first deployed in Haiti in 2010 following a severe earthquake. Since then, contacts have been established with aid organisations in the country. The team now deployed will also liaise with the country's authorities.
The I.S.A.R. team is also bringing medical equipment to Haiti. This will ensure basic medical care for 500 people for several days. If necessary, a further aid team with doctors, nurses and paramedics is available in Germany. This team can be brought to the disaster region within a very short time to provide comprehensive medical care to victims of the hurricane at a treatment centre.
