Professional resuscitation was the focus of a training course organised by I.S.A.R. Germany and the BRH Humanitarian Aid department at the fire brigade in the Philippine city of Tacloban.
For three days, 30 firefighters were trained. The firefighters were also instructed in the use of a defibrillator that the I.S.A.R./BRH team had given to the Tacloban fire brigade. There were lectures on the theoretical basics and practical exercises in small groups. Each participant had to apply what they had learnt to specific case studies. A written and practical final examination was held on the last day.
Our team had previously handed over a new ambulance to the fire brigade. The campaign is part of an aid project for the Tacloban region that began back in 2013. Back then, large areas were destroyed by Typhoon Haiyan. It was also no longer possible to provide the population with full medical care. The aid project helped to improve the situation.
