I.S.A.R. Germany and BRH send team for drinking water treatment and several generators

Duisburg. (02.10.2018) The Duisburg-based aid organisation I.S.A.R. Germany and its cooperation partner BRH Bundesverband Rettungshunde are sending a joint aid team to Indonesia. The experts will provide victims of the severe earthquake and tsunami at the end of last week with clean drinking water and electricity. The aid organisations are responding to a request from the Indonesian embassy in Berlin on Tuesday. The Indonesian government declared on Monday that it would accept international aid.

„Our experts can produce six thousand to ten thousand litres of clean water per day with their treatment plants,“ explains Daniela Lesmeister, President of I.S.A.R. Germany. The generators required for this and other generators carried along are also intended to contribute to the power supply. Alongside drinking water, electricity is one of the most urgently needed commodities in the disaster area around the harbour city of Palu.
A dozen rescue experts from I.S.A.R. and BRH are being deployed to Sulawesi, two of whom are already in Jakarta. „In addition to treating drinking water, they can provide support in a variety of ways, including in the organisational management of international aid operations,“ explains Lesmeister. The team will remain on site for as long as necessary, with staff rotated if necessary.
The majority of the aid workers will depart from Frankfurt via Singapore to Indonesia on Tuesday evening.
The cargo plane with the equipment will fly directly from Luxembourg to Palu on Wednesday.

I.S.A.R. Germany and the BRH Federal Association of Rescue Dogs have enjoyed an intensive partnership for many years. Several relief missions have already been completed together. For example, in 2013 after a severe typhoon in the Philippines and after violent earthquakes in Nepal in 2015 and Mexico in 2017.

The aid organisation I.S.A.R. Germany was founded in 2003. It specialises in the search and rescue of trapped people after earthquake disasters. In 2007, 2012 and 2017, I.S.A.R. was certified in this area by the UN organisation INSARAG for worldwide operations. The medical component has been expanded in the meantime based on the experience gained in the field. At the beginning of September, I.S.A.R. Germany was certified as an Emergency Medical Team (EMT) Type 1 by the World Health Organisation. This means that the treatment of patients is guaranteed in a field-based emergency room with several medical specialities. There has not yet been a request for this from Indonesia.
