We have expanded our operations in the flooded areas in Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia. The search operation that began on Saturday in the region around Bad Neuenahr, Rhineland-Palatinate, was continued.
At the request of the Rhine-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia, search dogs and construction consultants were also deployed in Erftstadt on Sunday. Partially collapsed houses near a flooded gravel pit were searched for people. The stability of buildings and the subsoil was also checked. The gravel pit had been flooded by the masses of water from the storm and there were several landslides. The subsoil in the neighbourhood is now threatening to become unstable due to the receding water. A housing estate is also affected. Search measures were also carried out in Stolberg (NRW) on Monday.
I.S.A.R. Chairwoman Dr Daniela Lesmeister explained: "We can contribute our experience from many international missions following natural disasters. It is really terrible what has happened to the population in the disaster area of the two federal states."
In total, I.S.A.R. Germany is currently on the move in the disaster region with ten search dogs and 14 emergency personnel.
