The I.S.A.R. Germany relief supplies warehouse in Poland.
I.S.A.R. Germany and BRH, the Federal Association of Rescue Dogs, have brought 53 tonnes of relief supplies to the crisis region since the start of the war in Ukraine. Several lorries initially transported the equipment to a warehouse in Poland. From there, aid transports were sent to the town of Zhytomyr, around 100 kilometres from Kiev. There, I.S.A.R. members were able to hand over the relief supplies to a maternity clinic, a nursery and the local community, among others. The city has already been the target of several attacks. The maternity clinic was also damaged. Some of the relief supplies will be transported to other parts of the country over the next few days.
The relief supplies delivered were put together on the basis of specific requirements from Ukraine. "Many things are now lacking in the war zone. Our aid deliveries were primarily aimed at ensuring medical care for the people in the region," says I.S.A.R. President Dr Daniela Lesmeister. On board the transports were several tonnes of equipment for the intensive medical care of patients. This included medication, anaesthetics, infusions, surgical instruments, an operating table, surgical clothing, bandages and ventilators. Tent heaters, emergency power generators, hygiene kits and sterilisers were also brought to the war zone.
BRH President Jürgen Schart refers to the many people who are fleeing the war or have to seek safety outside their homes. "We are trying to help them with jackets, sleeping bags and long-life food. We have also brought thousands of power banks to Ukraine so that people can keep in touch with their loved ones on their mobile phones for longer, even without a power supply," says Schart.
The transports are financially supported by the I.S.A.R. partner "Stiftung RTL - Wir helfen Kindern e.V.". The Federal Association of Rescue Dogs uses funds from "Aktion Deutschland Hilft" to help people in the war zone. Donations are also made to both organisations by private individuals and companies.
