The Taiwanese fire service and I.S.A.R. Germany will work more closely together in future. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the devastating earthquake in Taiwan on 21 September 1999, I.S.A.R. Germany and the Taiwanese National Fire Agency (NFA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The ceremony took place in the presence of the Taiwanese Minister of the Interior Liu Shyh-fang and the Director General of the Taiwanese Fire Department Huan-Chang Hsiao.

The aim of the agreement is to further expand disaster prevention and disaster management capacities. Through more intensive training and technical exchange, both sides want to learn from each other and support each other in the event of natural disasters such as earthquakes or storms. In particular, the focus is on sharing best practices and lessons learnt in order to deepen knowledge in the field of emergency management and further promote cooperation.

An important component of the cooperation is the regular exchange of specialists and experts. Leadership dialogues and conferences are intended to facilitate the transfer of knowledge, while rescue workers from both countries can take part in simulations and workshops. The aim is to improve emergency preparedness and ensure that help can be provided quickly, effectively and unbureaucratically in the event of a disaster.

The agreement lays the foundation for a long-term partnership that will help to further improve cooperation in the event of a disaster.
