From 24 to 26 October 2024, a large-scale EU civil protection exercise called "Magnitude" will take place in Baden-Württemberg. The aim of the exercise is to strengthen cross-border cooperation in the event of a disaster and to gain new insights for European civil protection.
The exercise centres on a fictitious earthquake scenario in the Upper Rhine region, in which rescue and supply operations, the handling of chemical, biological and nuclear hazards and the protection of particularly vulnerable people are rehearsed. Around 950 people are taking part in the exercise, including international teams from Austria, Greece, Switzerland and France. German civil protection units are also represented with around 550 emergency personnel.
The exercise is co-financed by the European Commission with a budget of 1.36 million euros and emphasises the importance of international cooperation in crisis situations. I.S.A.R. Germany supports the exercise in the following areas Exercise Control and with security forces for Safety and Security.
