I.S.A.R. Germany attended the GCTF workshop in Taipei at the beginning of March 2025 at the invitation of the Taiwanese fire service - together with experts from 30 countries. The aim: better preparation for natural disasters, pandemics and other crises through international cooperation in disaster and civil defence. Ministries, authorities, SAR (Search and Rescue) units, military units and fire brigades from all over the world were represented. I.S.A.R. Germany contributed its experience from worldwide operations. In his presentation, team leader Tim Poluzyn emphasised the importance of clear coordination of international aid in disaster areas. He also emphasised that the affected countries should define their aid requirements as precisely as possible so that support can be provided quickly and in a targeted manner. The importance of this cooperation was also emphasised at the highest level. Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te opened the workshop and emphasised that global challenges can only be overcome by working together.

Taiwan relies on I.S.A.R. Germany

Taiwan attaches great importance to international dialogue in order to be optimally prepared in the event of a disaster. Close cooperation with I.S.A.R. Germany also plays an important role for Taiwanese civil protection. This also became clear in discussions with Huan Chang Hsiao, Director General of the National Fire Agency. In public discussions, he emphasised the importance of cooperation with I.S.A.R. Germany.

Meeting with Taiwan's SAR units: Cooperation to be expanded

At a meeting with Ruei-Hsi Lu, the commander of the Taiwan Special Search and Rescue Team (TSSRT), concrete plans for closer cooperation were discussed, which should bring the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed last year to life. Plans include an exchange of experts and the development of a standardised training plan for SAR teams.
