Nine runners from ISAR Germany took part in the TARGOBANK Run in Duisburg at the end of August. Their participation in the corporate run also marked the partnership with TARGOBANK, which had supported ISAR Germany’s work with a donation of 600,000 euros.
Through this commitment, TARGOBANK supports efforts to help people who find themselves in dire straits following severe natural disasters. At the same time, it strengthens the voluntary work carried out by ISAR Germany: our emergency response teams voluntarily dedicate their time, experience and expertise to international disaster relief.
The funds provided help to ensure ISAR Germany’s operational readiness in the long term and to prepare the organisation for future international relief operations. This includes, amongst other things, training and exercises, the provision and maintenance of equipment, as well as logistical tasks and the transport of personnel and equipment to potential deployment areas.
One example of this was a large-scale exercise held in May this year in Gdańsk, Poland. There, the ISAR Germany search-and-rescue team practised key procedures for international disaster relief operations under realistic conditions. The exercise also served as a key part of the team’s preparations for its upcoming recertification by the United Nations next year.
A total of 6,000 runners from 290 companies and clubs took part in the 19th edition of the TARGOBANK Run. The 5.2-kilometre route wound its way through Duisburg city centre. The start and finish were in front of the Theater Duisburg.
The ISAR team also completed the course. Shortly before the finish, the nine runners put on their full protective gear. Wearing helmets, protective clothing and their personal equipment, they tackled the final metres and finally crossed the finish line together.
