In La Guaira, the new school year has begun for the pupils at the Simón Bolívar School. ISAR Germany is supporting the children in this region, which was severely affected by the earthquake, by providing school supplies. At the same time, preparations are already underway for another aid project: the reconstruction of a damaged school in Puerto Cabello. For the children at the Simón Bolívar School in La Guaira, the start of the new school year also marks a return to a sense of normality. The school is part of the Venezuelan partner organisation Fe y Alegría and is located in a region that has been severely affected by the major earthquake.
To mark the start of the new school year, ISAR Germany has handed out 100 school rucksacks to pupils. They are equipped with, amongst other things, exercise books, pens, pencil cases, paintbrushes and other art and school supplies. The rucksacks are intended to help the children settle into their daily school routine and ease the burden on families when it comes to purchasing the necessary materials.
The aftermath of the earthquake is still evident
The Simón Bolívar School itself remained undamaged in the earthquake. However, the disaster caused severe damage in the surrounding area. Numerous homes were destroyed. Pupils from the school also lost their lives in the earthquake. The effects of the disaster continue to shape the lives of many families in La Guaira to this day. This makes the resumption of school operations all the more important: lessons give the children a structured daily routine and a familiar place where they can learn together. Support for the children in the earthquake-affected area is provided with the help of the „RTL Foundation – We Help Children“.
Next aid project in Puerto Cabello
ISAR Germany’s aid efforts in Venezuela are continuing. Together with Lions Germany, plans are in place to rebuild another school run by the partner organisation Fe y Alegría in Puerto Cabello. The school building was severely damaged by the earthquake and cannot currently be used for lessons. The aim of this joint project is to restore the school and provide the children with a safe place to learn as quickly as possible.
Through its support in La Guaira and the planned reconstruction in Puerto Cabello, ISAR Germany is continuing to provide aid to children and families affected by the earthquake in Venezuela.
